NGEA attends NUUC PV system launch

On 6 June 2010, three NGEA members attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the PV system at the Neighbourhood Unitarian Universalist Congregation, on Hiawatha Road, in Toronto (see gallery).

The groundbreaking for the PV system at the Neighbourhood Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Toronto will take place on 6 June 2010. As a supporter of the NUUC PV system, NGEA has been invited to send a representative to the groundbreaking gathering.
 
NGEA Village Technologies partnership

Next Generation Energy Alternatives (NGEA), a Toronto-based registered charity, has approved a Memo of understanding with Village Technologies, a Toronto-based high performance building design and energy efficiency system integration company (www.villagetechnologies.ca). According to the Memo of understanding between NGEA and Village Technologies, "For Village Technologies, NGEA presents a funding framework that we believe would be of great interest to our non-profit, not-for-profit and co-operative housing clients and one consistent with their values and ours."

   NGEA President, Bonnie Downing, reported on NGEA's 2009 activities at NGEA's Annual General Meeting, which was held on Thurs., 18 Feb., 2010. Balzac's Cafe is NGEA's first corporate member. NGEA supported the installation of a photovoltaic (PV) system at the [Unitarian] Neighbourhood Solar Project in the Beach area of Toronto. NGEA has achieved charitable status.

In a letter to Next Generation Energy Alternatives (4 February 2010), Rick Salay, Chair of the Greening Committee of the Neighbourhood Solar Project of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (79 Hiawatha Rd., Toronto), wrote the following: "We offer you a heartfelt thank you for your interest in our environment. We also thank you from all the members of our congregation.... Your donation will be allocated to assist with the cost of installation of solar panels on the roof or our building. The solar panels are also an investment in a community's ability to help heal our environment. This solar array will be one of the first in Ontario to use the new tariffs and the new incentives to generate clean electricity. It will become a public teaching tool as well by offering real time production data through a computer display in our lobby. The display will show how effectively and easiliy energy can be produced in an old building within our neighbourhood..."

 
NGEA Annual General Meeting

NGEA's Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, 18 February, 2010, at 7 p.m., in the Amenity Room (11th floor), at Parliament Square Condominium, 39 Parliament St. All NGEA members are cordially invited to attend. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
 
NGEA attains charitable status

Next Generation Energy Alternatives (NGEA) has become a registered charity! Thanks to all NGEA members who supported NGEA during the application process. And thanks to Ted Hyland  of Iler Campbell (Barristers and Solicitors) whose legal expertise facilitated NGEA's attainment of charitable status. 
 
Tower Power features NGEA speaker

The January, 2010, meeting of Tower Power, formerly the Downtown West Multi-Unit Solar Energy Project, focussed on how condominiums and housing co-operatives can mount photovoltaic (PV) systems which will generate clean power. Ontario's new Feed-in Tariff (FIT) programme, will significantly reduce the payback time for condos and housing co-ops which mount PV systems. Dennis Bartels, Secretary of Next Generation Energy Alternatives, was the featured speaker. The meeting was attended by about 30 people, many of whom are condominium board members. The next meeting of Tower Power will focus on energy conservation strategies for condos and co-ops (see www.ourpower.ca). 
 
NGEA supports Neighbourhood Solar Project

Next Generation Energy Alternatives has made a donation to the Neighbourhood Solar Project's photovoltaic system which will be installed at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Building in the Beach area of Toronto. The Neighbourhood Solar Project will generate clean power for Toronto Hydro under Ontario's Feed-in Tariff Programme.
 
NGEA's first corporate member

   Balzacs Cafe, with locations in Stratford, Toronto, and Niagara Falls, has become NGEA's first corporate member (www.balzacscoffee.com). NGEA is very pleased that Balzacs will join NGEA in the fight against global climate change.

   NGEA's Board of Directors usually meets at Balzacs Cafe in Toronto's Distillery District.
